1. Are you sitting?
2. How’s your Tuesday going?
3. No, but seriously. Are you sitting?
If you’ve answered yes to two or more of the above, you may proceed to...
... Morimoto—a Japanese tour de force from the winningest Iron Chef around, soft-open now at the Shelborne Wyndham Grand, officially opening October 1. (Take a long, wondrous look right over here.)
This is it: a sultry poolside cove draped in bronze and amber. With fixed chandeliers adorning a cozy center bar that connects an indoor dining room to a covered outdoor area. All of it a fitting piece of real estate for working out the proper tuna-pizza-to-shōchū ratio with a beguiling so-and-so you’re hell-bent on impressing.
Now, allow us to direct your attention to the sushi bar running the full length of the restaurant. The one where you’ll relinquish all decision-making rights to the chefs before you. Yes, you’re going the omakase route here. Live octopus, flying fish roe, custard omelet. It’s all fair game. And if the stars align just right, you could have your maki prepared by Morimoto himself.
Just don’t call him “Bobby.”
