H.P. Lovecraft: The Bar.

H.P. Lovecraft.

Horror fiction legend. Creator of an enormous octopus-headed god named Cthulhu. All-around odd duck.

It was only a matter of time before someone said, “Hey, let’s make a bar out of that guy.”

And now there’s Lovecraft, a new East Village cocktail spot dedicated to the man and his Age of Steam atmospherics, now open. (See the slideshow here.)

What you’ll see at this place: Steampunk lab equipment. Hanging lights covered by hats. Tentacles—both in massive mural form and cooked form. It’s got that eclecticism meets slowly going insane vibe you see in your finer cocktail establishments.

What you’ll hear at this place: There’s a stage downstairs. It’s decked out in Illuminati art. And it’s where, from time to time, you’ll see performances of... whatever kind of music they’re digging at the time.

What you’ll drink at this place: The Green God, which is absinthe with a lemon twist.

Because this all wasn’t weird enough without wormwood.
