Welcome Lyman’s Tavern, a deliciously divey spot expected to open by early next week near Petworth.
Nothing fancy here. It’s part pinball-and-jukebox room, part Montana-ranch-hand bar, for forgetting your day and making some new friends. You’ve got rustic wood paneling everywhere, you’ve got PBR on draft. But most of all, you’ve got shelves stocked with collectibles and curios that languished in the owner’s storage locker for years. Yes, in Montana.
Grab a seat at the long, concrete bar (with stools from an old Leesburg steakhouse) for a better look at such things—a stuffed jackalope, an EKG machine, loads of old camera equipment. The menu leans toward drinking food, like chili, White Castle–esque sliders and popcorn from a machine at the end of the bar.
But if you’re the kind who likes to be in control, commandeer one of the high-top tables with its own jukebox. Peruse its 50-odd discs, and call up some classic Hank Williams, some garage rock, maybe some Malaysian pop.
