Glacial Pace

Camping. Quite Comfortably.

Glamping.

Awful word. One of the worst.

But dammit, you respect what it stands for.

Exert minimal effort for Glacier Under Canvas, a comfortable camping experience near Glacier National Park that you’ll want to earmark for a summer weekend, opening June 19 and taking reservations now.

These folks already perfected the art of barely roughing it in Yellowstone and Moab. But basically what they do is take things like king-size beds and claw-foot tubs and place them, ever so carefully, inside of tents bigger than most studio apartments. Then they put those tents somewhere scenic. In this case: the middle of the Montana wilderness.

When you book, you’ll tell them where you want to sleep—in a tepee, in a safari tent, halfway up a tree—and what you want to do. Yes, they’ll organize any excursions like whitewater rafting and helicopter tours. Then, just show up and camp. Tell ghost stories on your Oriental rug. Roast marshmallows in your wood-burning fireplace. Become one with nature.

Or your claw-foot tub.
