Ugly sweaters: commonplace this time of year.

Only problem: they all pretty much look the same.

What would be great: if you could design your own. With animation. And maybe a little duct tape.

Get ugly with Digital Dudz, a free app for your iPhone and iPad that lets you create horrendously ugly holiday sweaters, available now.

This is a little like Pixar for ugly sweaters. First, you’ll download the app and browse through its various holiday images and designs. Think: a holiday fireplace scene, giant snow globes, Rudolph and his red nose. Then: pick out an image, which they’ll mail to you as an iron-on (they’ll even overnight it, in case you need it by tomorrow).

From there, you’ll iron the pattern on a fitting blank sweatshirt. If you want, you can even cut out a hole in your sweatshirt and tape your phone or iPad to the inside, so that the animation you’ve downloaded from the app is visible.

And just like that: a cheery fireplace sweater scene is sent into overdrive with an actual roaring fire glowing on the device on your chest.
