As the bard William Smith once proclaimed in song: “Summer, summer, summertiiiiime.” Truer words were never spoken. And that means, yes, Hamptons time approaches. So in spite of the rain, we’ve scoured every corner out east for the brightest, shiniest newcomers of the Hamptons leisure season. Now go get a Hampton named after you.
Zum Schneider. You’ve finally learned that just drinking the beers there is easier than trying to pronounce them. And now they’re spreading their weiss-pouring, wurst-fueled gospel from the East Village to a nice spot just off the water out on Montauk. Umlauts travel quite well.
You had a harebrained scheme this year to transport the Meatpacking District out to the Hamptons with you. Well, the Beaumarchais folks have saved you the trouble by bringing their swinging-from-the-chandeliers, champagne-soaked Beau Brunches with them for the summer and settling down beside SL East. How convenient for you.
Time was, you just waded out into the water, plunged your hand into the sea and pulled out dinner. Now, the guys behind Trata, who’ve taken over the old Nello’s space, will slap a whole Greek snapper or a European bass onto a charcoal grill and take care of the legwork for you. It’s just as satisfying.
Of course you’ll need wine... are the words you say before any weekend excursion with a chance of success. This spot from the Bobby Van’s guys is your go-to for that out here. That, and a perfectly seared Northern Italian veal chop. Which we hear goes well with more wine.
Vegetables: yeah, okay. Vegetables grown outside of a 170-year-old mansion run by Mr. Top Chef himself: we’ll assume we can just sign you up. Tom Colicchio is bringing his craft (sorry) out to the Hamptons for the first time this summer with this restaurant-spa-hotel. Labor Day is taken care of.
