Endless Winter

Six Places to Ski in North America Now

The warmer months are upon us, and yet, there’s still plenty of packed powder and glacial skiing at the ready. Here, six closer-to-home resorts where the skiing’s still fresh. You’ve always wanted to après-ski in seersucker.

Kirkwood
MAY 28-29

Kirkwood

You don’t have to choose between a swimsuit and snow pants if you spend Memorial Day at Kirkwood, where they’re opening lifts 10 and 11 for the holiday. The resort’s a mere 35-minute drive from South Lake Tahoe, where you’ll be trading your snowboard for a wakeboard.

8am-2pm, Kirkwood, 1501 Kirkwood Meadows Dr, Kirkwood, CA, 209-258-6000

Snowbird
THROUGH JUNE

Snowbird

The continued snowfall (30 inches just last week) in Utah led the folks at Snowbird to reopen five of the resort’s 12 lifts for what they’re calling endless winter. June: now hot toddy weather.

Weekends only, Snowbird, Hwy 210, Little Cottonwood Canyon, Snowbird, UT, 800-232-9542

Arapahoe Basin
THROUGH EARLY JULY

Arapahoe Basin

North America’s highest skiable terrain—home to one of its longest seasons—is 68 miles west of Denver at A-Basin. Seventy percent of its acreage is still open, and in summer the base’s melted patches and BBQ areas earn it the nickname The Beach. Just don’t get sand in your boots.

Mammoth
THROUGH JULY 4

Mammoth

Mammoth just keeps on getting fresh powder, and they’re having beachy Memorial Day activities like snow volleyball, BBQs and... a frozen T-shirt contest. We like your chances.

Mammoth, 1 Minaret Rd, Mammoth Lakes, CA, 800-626-6684

Whistler Blackcomb
JUNE 18-JULY 24

Whistler Blackcomb

Whistler just had its second snowiest season on record, and the terrain at Horstman Glacier will be open for more experienced skiers this summer. Moving at a glacial pace has never felt so exhilarating.

Crystal Mountain
THROUGH JULY

Crystal Mountain

The season at Crystal Mountain officially ended in April, but they’re riding it out on weekends until the snow melts. Even if corn’s not your favorite condition, you can always get a few runs in before gondola-ing to the summit for a sunset dinner. You wouldn’t après-ski any other way.

Weekends only, Crystal Mountain, 33914 Crystal Mountain Blvd, Crystal Mountain, WA, 888-754-6199
