Coffee.

Donuts.

Fried chicken.

Such an obvious trio. Yet... so elusive.

That all changes now that Federal Donuts is here by way of Philadelphia, where wise individuals are known to brave lines out the door for the James Beard Award-winning chefs’ fried and caffeinated delights. It’s open now in Wynwood, and here’s the slideshow.

You’ll head here for breakfast, lunch or dinner—basically, whenever funky donuts and Korean-style fried chicken seems like a good idea. Bring some friends and find a booth or carve out some space at the standing counter by the window if you’re just passing by.

Notice the red, white and blue touches and the rooster logo. Gaze longingly at the floor-to-ceiling chicken and donuts mural from a big-in-Philly artist. And then, get to the matters at hand. Which is to say cinnamon brown sugar donuts dunked into a cup of Panther Coffee Finca La Amistad.

Or maybe a chili garlic whole chicken. Or a chocolate eclair. Or a churro donut for the road.

Or a hammock.

On a typical Wednesday, Ginger Harris is likely seeking reposado tequila, squeezing her way to the front of a concert or jumping on the back of an Indian motorcycle. That’s just Wednesdays, though.
