It was a terrible weekend in the NYC cocktail world, and we want to acknowledge that before bringing something we hope will come as a welcome bit of good news.

UD will miss the excitement that came with going to a Sasha Petraske spot. Going to Milk & Honey, for instance, you knew you’d find some nook of sanctuary, and that you’d be getting the best cocktails being served in New York, and maybe the world, that night. And when his disciples started opening their own bars (Attaboy, the Violet Hour in Chicago, etc.), we saw similar results.

His influence is everywhere. If you find yourself drinking a decent cocktail anywhere in America tonight, there’s a good chance he had something to do with it. And for that, we offer our sincerest respects.

All that’s left now is to have a cocktail.

Let’s try Drexler’s, a great little Alphabet City drinks enclave with an unspoken-for piano and a soda-gun mojito, now open.

And now, step into the mists of a most beautiful slideshow.
