A Well-Mannered New Gastropub in Buckhead

It doesn’t really get more Southern than what just transpired last week:

Eating comfort foods with family. Drinking bourbon with friends. Generally being chivalrous.

Except it actually does get more Southern than that.

It gets a lot more Southern than that...

Hold the door open at The Southern Gentleman, an impressive new undertaking of bourbon and elevated comfort food from the burgeoning Big Ketch/Smokebelly/Gypsy Kitchen empire, opening tomorrow in Buckhead Atlanta.

White marble countertops. Tufted camel leather booths. Herringbone floors. Turns out, this place was designed to help you seduce people. Not just dates. Like, all people. (Here’s the visual proof.)

And since there’s not a bad seat in the house, blindly follow the hostess wherever. Once you’re seated, all that matters is that your server will bring you things. Duck & Dumplings. A bourbon-based East of Hudson with sweet vermouth and smoked cherry. Waffles topped with chicken liver mousse and bourbon barrel maple syrup. (Right this way for the menu.)

Although, on second thought, maybe request the semiprivate Twain Room under the giant painting of Samuel Langhorne Clemens. Which, yes, is Mark Twain’s non-pen-name name.

Not... sure why he needed a pen name.
