Tacos and Dirty Horchatas in South Beach

None 6 Photos Taquiza
“Trick or taco.”

Somehow that never caught on. Weird.

But anyway, here comes Taquiza, a casual taco shack from an Eating House alum that’s slinging carnitas, paletas and the icy beer that goes with them, opening Monday (cross your fingers) in South Beach. (See the slideshow here.)

Excitement. You should be feeling twinges of that right now. Because what we’re talking about is carnitas tacos wrapped in tortillas using blue corn sourced from Masienda up in NYC. And the vibe here: laid-back. A walk-up counter. Metal benches. A few palm trees scattered around for good measure. Just a solid little nook for casually watching the action on Collins Avenue.

You’ll walk in and survey the chalkboard menu: tacos (huitlacoche, tongue, carnitas), elote, mole-rubbed beef jerky. Not much to overthink here. Just pick up a bottle of Tecate from the cooler, put in your order and wait for your Mexican bounty to come out.

Oh, and post-tacos, they’ve got a crazy selection of paletas for you—pineapple, sweet corn and avocado. Not to mention the “dirty” horchata made with a splash of Panther’s cold-brew coffee.

It’s the new Mexican energy drink.
