The setting: a badly needed Midtown East cocktail lounge called Crimson & Rye. (It officially opens Monday, and Perks can get you into the official opening party next week.)
And... action:
You and your date settle into some leather chairs next to the panoramic windows. You start with a Seelbach—a summery marriage of bourbon and sparkling wine. Or with something from the solid whiskey selection. Or with one of the rare liqueurs, like the French bitters known as Amer Picon. (Clearly, this is a choose-your-own-adventure kind of story.)
At this point, you may feel a familiar rumbling. Don’t panic. It’s merely hunger. This is where Palmer makes his cameo—or rather, his food does. Carved roasted steak. Oysters with white wine mignonette. You eat.
And then, as the action winds down, some dialogue:
“Did you know this was Bernie Madoff’s old office building?”
Yeah, we didn’t see that twist coming either.
