Things to do for May 22, 2014
Rooftop Party. Basement Slushies. Everywhere Weekend.
The weekend will be hickory-smoked.
Parachute Deploys. Korean Food Ensues.
Korean-American date spots serving oysters with soju granita are kind of hard to find these days. Ones with husband-and-wife chefs (including Top Chef’s Beverly Kim) are even harder. But here’s a secret: just look in Avondale. Because one of those just opened there. Imagine that.
Slurping Noodles in Sodikoff’s Basement
This week, Brendan Sodikoff did what Brendan Sodikoff does so very well. He opened another restaurant. It’s a little ramen shop (with tiki cocktail slushies) in the basement of Green Street Smoked Meats, the West Loop BBQ honky-tonk he opened last winter. Pretty sure Johnny Cash and umami just happened.
Paying Not Much for Shirts and Things
Contemplate what you want out of summer. If the answer is things like suede Alden Shoe Co. oxfords and lightweight linen shirts, well, you should probably check out Haberdash. They’re offering 70% off things like that this weekend. Also: we like the way you contemplate.
Northcenter Burgers: Now Quite Insane
Rocks closed its Lincoln Park outpost, yes. But it’s bringing its crazy hamburger-with-a-hot-dog-on-top-having ways to Northcenter. It’s also bringing beer, shuffleboard and a patio. It proves that old axiom... every time God closes a burger joint in Lincoln Park, he opens another in Northcenter.
Happy Rooftop Soiree Season
This year marks the fifth anniversary of Roof on theWit. They kick off their summertime Sunday party with $5 burgers, $5 canned beer and a Swiss DJ. Which, as you know, is the traditional DJ of fifth-anniversary rooftop parties.
