Barolos, Short Ribs and Heavy Metal in Coral Gables

Your neighborhood-wine-bar needs are simple, really:

A good ’98 Barolo. A solid cheese plate. And some blaring Metallica...

Meet Uvaggio, an irreverent neighborhood wine bar in Coral Gables that’ll blast heavy metal every Monday starting tonight—it’s soft-open now.

The vibe: laid-back but sleek, like walking into Anthony Bourdain’s kitchen (the way you dream about it, anyway). Supple brown leather stools lining the intimate bar. Dark wooden tables, shorter than highboys but taller than... tables. And large mirrors for admiring your swirling technique.

So it’s 5 o’clock, and you’re thinking drinks with the attractive ad exec from the 10th floor. Get that elevator pitch ready, then bring them here for an aperitivo of charcuterie and cheese and a bottle of the Domaine Nicolas Girard Sancerre. Nice.

Or if you don’t know which of the 100 small-production wines go best with the pork rillette terrine, hand it over to Heath. He’s your new favorite sommelier, a sardonic guy who... thinks it’s a good idea to hold “Metal Mondays” in a wine bar. Your kind of guy.

So if you’re craving a big red with notes of leather and pencil lead, Heath will pour the Isole e Olena cabernet sauvignon and suggest the braised beef short ribs.

Just mind your glass when Heath breaks out the air guitar.
