Things to do for December 20, 2013
More Eataly, O’Hare of the Dogs and Christmas Karaoke
Have a holly, jolly weekend.
Baffo Opens in Eataly
You looked at Eataly and said, “Nice, but I want more.” So now, they’ve opened a swanky Italian restaurant with a name that means “mustache,” white tablecloths, intimate window seats overlooking Grand Avenue, 450 wines, pig-foot milanese and squid-ink fettuccini with lobster. That should hold you.
This May Be the Future of Pizza...
... At least when you need a crispy thin-crust pie on Belmont. It’s basically Chipotle for pizza. You line up and pick your ingredients (arugula to zucchini), and they fire it on the spot. Also available: s’mores, which they melt for you in the pizza oven. Leave your bonfire at home.
All Brunch, All the Time
Hash House a Go Go has decreed the brunch menu is now the only menu. Translation: you’re entering a bold new future where flapjacks, burgers and an O’Hare of the Dog (24-ounce Budweiser with a side of bacon) are offered on-demand, all day, every day. Now this is progress.
There’s live jazz and a $6 menu of filet sliders at this steakhouse soiree. There is also the combustible mix of mistletoe and $6 signature cocktails like salted caramel apple martinis. If you have a lipstick-proof collar, now is the time to wear it.
Christmas Karaoke and Barbecue Ribs
A holiday poem: ’Twas the night before Christmas and all through Bub City, visions of you singing “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer” danced in our heads. Or something. We’re still working on it. But the plot involves karaoke caroling, barbecue and whiskey. So there’s a happy ending.
