Things to do for November 21, 2013
Bikini Models, Caviar and Sharp Knives
Brr. Throw another log on the weekend.
You look good in a suit. You look even better in two different suits. (Note: not worn simultaneously.) So you’ll like this: Haberdash is doing a buy-one-get-one-free sale on L.B.M. 1911 and Southwick suits. Rendering the houndstooth vs. pinstripe debate moot.
125-Year-Old Sandwiches. And Caviar.
After 125 years, the Glunz Tavern has learned a few things. So to celebrate its anniversary, it’s bringing back its original sandwich menu. (No one makes a good chopped-egg-and-nut sandwich anymore.) But more importantly, there will be caviar. Which, last we checked, people still dig.
The coldest weekend since February calls for one thing: a search for the next bikini model. Thirty women will model swimsuits and beachwear as they compete for the title of Miss Tropic Beauty Chicago on Friday. Yeah, we know. “Tropic” and “Chicago.” Just go with it.
This event on Saturday includes beer (in the form of 30-plus craft breweries), sports (in the form of Nerf games and Pop-A-Shot) and bacon (in the form of 30 pork dishes). Basically, it’s like someone’s man cave became sentient and took over Union Station.
Pleasant House Bakery, Olivia’s beer cheese and a Happy Holidays cocktail (vodka, apple cider, cinnamon syrup) will be waiting for you at Dose Market on Sunday. Also on hand: pre-Thanksgiving knife sharpening. So maybe take it easy on the whole Happy Holidays thing.
