Dallas’s First Real Ramen Spot

Choosing a pizza joint: tricky.

Picking a steak place: too many options.

But deciding on a ramen spot: well, that’s easy.

There’s only one.

And here it is: Tanoshii Ramen + Bar. The highly anticipated ode to all things ramen, steamed buns and Japanese whiskey is finally opening Wednesday in Deep Ellum.

Inside, it’s like a little Tokyo noodle den. Assuming Tokyo noodle dens have that warm industrial look. Exposed brick, dark wood, concrete floors. Plus a stone-topped bar that’s pouring hot sakes, cold Kirins and... room-temperature Japanese whiskeys.

So come Tuesday, think up a reason to stop by. Hunger or general curiosity should work. Then, sit on one of those tree-trunk bar stools. Or settle into a big wooden banquette and kindly suggest that someone (the waiter, perhaps) cover your table with spicy miso ramen, pork belly buns and skewered quail eggs. There, that’ll get you started.

And when next weekend rolls around, you should know that this place stays open until 3am on Fridays and Saturdays for dumplings and hot pots.

Never too late for a hot pot.
