We’re hooking you up with three pet jellyfish in an aquarium that doubles as art. (Start brainstorming names.) Your other Perks: futuristically handsome NOVO watches for 20% off, and NASA-worthy cameras from Hasselblad—the guys who put cameras on the moon.
Things to do for August 15, 2013
Adult Happy Meals, Animaniacs Burlesque and Brunch
The weekend heard it was only a sprain.
The Scottish Will Entertain You Now
Tossing the caber and sheaf. Putting the stone. Competitive bagpiping. Yep, there’s a massive Scottish festival in Maine on Saturday. Hit the beer tents. Watch some Highland-style dancing. Maybe catch the bagpipe competition. And before you ask, yes, there’s a haggis toss. There’s always a haggis toss.
Six Weeks of Brunch at Emerald Lounge
You may have heard that Wicked is in town for a six-week run. What you may not have heard is that Emerald Lounge is celebrating it with brunch. Fried-hen-egg-topped burgers. Lobster benedict. Cocktails fueled with gin and ruby red grapefruit. Judy Garland and gin. It was probably inevitable.
And now for something completely different: burlesque cartoon characters. It’s a thing. It’s also a show this Saturday in Cambridge, featuring 15 burlesque ladies (the real live human kind) “dressed” as characters from the old Animaniacs cartoon. This could be amazing. Or ruin your childhood memories.
Ice Cream. Endless Ice Cream.
Sundays are your favorite day to spend two hours consuming all the homemade ice cream you can consume. Which is good, because that’s exactly what you’ll do at the Boston Ice Cream Takedown. It’s a contest. And you get to pick the winner. Fingers crossed for a hung jury.
Adult Happy Meals? Adult Happy Meals.
Happy Meals. You remember those. The burger. The fries. The toys. The bourbon. About that last bit, if you stop by Drink during restaurant week, they’ll give you an adult Happy Meal, complete with an Old Fashioned and, of course, a toy. Which damn well better be Hamburglar.
