Steak Frites... Now with Unlimited Frites

None 5 Photos Béarnaise
Some things are quite common in the immediate vicinity of the Capitol. Fanny packs. Pages. Kevin Spacey.

But cozy little French date spots—nope, not many of those.

And cozy little French date spots with unlimited fries—positively unheard of.

So wave your steak knife and say bonjour to Béarnaise, Spike Mendelsohn’s latest (and least casual) spot on Pennsylvania Avenue, opening Friday.

Maybe this isn’t a first-date play. Better take a companion who won’t be put off by prodigious french fry consumption.

But we’re getting ahead of ourselves. You might want to know about the two stories of Paris-inspired white-and-black tiles, frosted mirrors and globe lights. Or the marble bar, where you can sit under the gaze of Brigitte Bardot while you sip French 75s and knock back Virginia oysters.

In the dining room, you’ll eye a not-quite-SFW collage of Serge Gainsbourg pictures, tee up a bottle of red (most are exactly $40) and dive into a filet, flat iron steak or ribeye. You’ll also pick your sauce.

And you’ll choose when to say when on the fries, because every now and then a server will walk around with a bowl of them and a pair of tongs to replenish you.

Or just ask them to leave the bowl.
