Things to do for June 13, 2013
Whiskey, Dancing and a Coffee-and-Donuts Ice Cream Bar
The weekend will be decided in triple overtime.
Coffee-and-Donuts Ice Cream Is Here
West Town Bakery has opened a second outlet, this time in the Acme Hotel, and your coffee drinking and donut eating may never be the same. That’s because this place has managed to incorporate both into one single ice cream bar. Let’s hear it for progress, folks.
You could buy some sort of floating vessel at this in-the-water boat show. Maybe a yacht. Maybe a paddleboard. Who knows. Or another option: you could just get dragged around the water in something called a banana boat. It’s much, much less expensive than the yacht.
Soldier Field started looking like a spaceship in 2003. This weekend, it will actually sound like one with a three-day techno-palooza, featuring EDM heavyweights like Calvin Harris and Moby, the godfather of techno. He’ll lay down a beat you can’t refuse.
Meet the New Rye in Town
Angel’s Envy is jumping into the rye whiskey game. So it’s bringing its master distiller to town to show off a new rye that’s aged in oak and then finished in rum casks for 18 months. Not a bad way to spend a year and a half, actually.
A quick pre–Father’s Day idea: take ol’ Pops to Bridgman—a pleasant little Michigan town—which is offering up its Weko Beach to host a locally grown wine fest, with rock bands and a visit from Chicago’s Wagyu Wagon. Or, you know, just go with the tie.
