Things to do for February 23, 2012
Hot Tubs, Oscar Parties and Tacos
For lifetime achievement in the field of the weekend...
Beer and Crispy-Pig-Ear Tacos
This dinner includes crispy-pig-ear tacos (a criminally underrated kind of taco), ale-braised pulled-pork gorditas and beer-braised short ribs—each complemented by selections from Chicago’s 5 Rabbit Brewery. To recap: three courses. 5 Rabbit. One you. A pretty good matchup if ever there was one.
You’ve had a hard week. The sympathetic folks at this Lincoln Park sports bar want to see you relax. To that end, they’re converting the beer garden into an oasis of hot tubs, $2 cold beers and raffle tickets. Bathing suits with waterproof pockets are highly recommended.
The city’s official Oscar party takes place at the Gene Siskel Sunday night. Expect tuxedos, red-carpet banter from Amanda Puck, a dinner buffet, champagne at the bar, an HD broadcast of the awards and, naturally, a goodie bag. Also: lots of those ® symbols.
A less formal Oscar viewing option: huddling with Richard Roeper and Billy Dec for a night of pork sliders, parmesan truffle popcorn, Kir Royals and a chance to best them in a betting pool. You do possess an uncanny record when it comes to guessing the winner for best sound mixing.
Punch from an Oscar-Worthy Bartender
Bridge Bar now has its own hand-selected, barrel-aged whiskey. More importantly: you can sample it with gratis Sazeracs at this riverside soiree. Chicago celeb mixologist Adam Segar, freshly returned from Hollywood, will provide barrel-aged punch and ribald tales from the Governors Ball. Your job: out-ribald Clooney.
