Things to do for June 23, 2011
Bocce, Catherine Deneuve and Ice Cream Pizza
The weekend has never been a fugitive.
Ladies and Gentlemen: Ice Cream Pizza
Most Thursdays: great night for a pizza and a few beers. This Thursday: great night for a brownie crust, vanilla ice cream, fudge and artisanal-chocolate-topped Ice Cream Pizza, available now at all Emack & Bolio’s in the area. Yes, you can still have it with beer.
The Films of Luis Buñuel
Nothing against Mr. Popper’s Penguins, but know that this is the last weekend to catch the Luis Buñuel retrospective at the Harvard Film Archive. Our pick: 1967’s Belle de Jour, partially because we love French cinema and partially because we love Catherine Deneuve in a bra. Okay, mostly for Deneuve.
$5 Bites and Bocce in Cambridge
For five years, the patio party at Restaurant Dante has served you well. Serving you even better is this Sunday’s five-year anniversary party. On deck (so to speak): $5 cocktails, an oyster shucker dishing out five oysters for $5, $5 finger foods and outdoor bocce on the grass. High five.
Speaking of classic films, Monday marks the start of the Regal Beagle’s new every-other-Monday reel-time series. It begins with Bela Lugosi’s 1931 Dracula, gratis truffle-spiced popcorn and the Blood Runner: black rum, blood orange puree and ginger beer. Lugosi was huge on ginger beer.
If you haven’t heard, the recent monsoon-like weather has moved the Taste of Cambridge to its rain date. Which means you’ll be able to sample the wares of 60 Cambridge restaurants like East Coast Grill, Formaggio Kitchen and Russell House Tavern on Tuesday. So, basically your normal Tuesday.
