Things to do for September 09, 2010
Vintage Taxidermy, $2 Bellinis and Pie
The weekend is not a fan of pre-opening-game car accidents.
If you head to the W tonight for the Boldfacers cocktail party and pop-up vintage shop, you can land anything from rocker tees to Victorian cuff links to vintage cowboy gear (spurs, cowhide rugs, etc.). There’s even some funky taxidermy pieces, like a stuffed peacock. Perfect for your wildlife-themed living room.
Union Square is throwing an outdoor Punjabi culture festival. This is your cue to devour naan bread and other authentic Indian food for free, watch Indian martial arts demos and later hit up the Independent for Indian cocktails and a DJ spinning Indian tunes. Chances of hearing Ravi Shankar: better than average.
A Birthday Party in Dorchester
Turning two is the sort of milestone that calls for a party. For a kid, that means G.I. Joe’s. For a killer pizza and pasta restaurant in Dorchester, that means gratis hors d’oeuvres, $2 Bellinis and a $2 bar menu for two hours. Could also include G.I. Joe’s.
The first annual Fruit Pie Contest is happening in Brookline on Monday, where for $5 you can try all the banana, raspberry, cherry, blueberry, blackberry and apple pies your stomach can handle. You’ve been meaning to get more fruit in your diet.
You’ve always wanted to play chess with the Celtics. But after that, you’ve always wanted to play poker with the Bruins. This Wednesday is your big break. You’ll pit your bluffing and stoicism skills against players from the B’s like Krejci, Chara and Lucic. Should you trounce Lucic on every hand, watch out for a slap shot to the face.
