The Weekender

Endless Beer, Martini Lunches and Gratis Sausage

The weekend is taking Monday with it.

Thursday
After Dark at the Exploratorium
TWISTED SISTER

After Dark at the Exploratorium

It’s not every day that hands-on exhibits (in this case, a playground) and Cirque du Soleil-like performances are paired with cocktails in a museum. So take advantage tonight, when the bar starts serving at 6pm, the exhibits open up and aerialists perform. Everything’s interactive, but we’d leave the gravity-defying tricks up to the professionals.

Jul 1, 6-10pm, $15, Exploratorium, 3601 Lyon St (Palace of Fine Arts), 415-561-0363

Friday
Martini Lunch at Urban Tavern
POWER LUNCHING

Martini Lunch at Urban Tavern

A steak and martini at noon is something that just feels... right. And so you know, Urban Tavern’s put together a little deal that involves a starter, an entrée and a vodka or gin martini. Then, when your bill comes, it’ll discreetly leave off any incriminating martini-laden evidence. What you do at happy hour, however, is up to you.

Mon-Fri until Jul 30, 11:30am-2:30pm, Urban Tavern, 333 O’Farrell St (at Mason), 415-923-4400

Rocketfish Opens in Potrero Hill
ROCKET SCIENCE

Rocketfish Opens in Potrero Hill

This new sushi joint helmed by a Blowfish vet is as much cocktail lounge as it is raw fish temple. Which means that instead of your usual sashimi pairings of sake and beer, you can have the tequila-and-jalapeño-spiked Rocket Popper. In other words, you can come for sushi and stay for drinks.

Open now, Rocketfish, 1469 18th St (at Connecticut), 415-282-9666

Saturday
Basil Hayden's
Comstock’s Beef Shank & Bone Marrow Pot-Pie

SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION

Comstock’s Beef Shank & Bone Marrow Pot-Pie

Start with red wine-braised beef shank, top it with bone marrow, and house it all inside lard-and-butter-flaked pie crust. It’s the pot-pie to end all pot-pies—one of the heartiest meals in the city. And our field testing shows that the only thing that’ll cut through all that richness is a good bourbon. We think you’re up for the task.

411: Comstock Saloon, 155 Columbus Ave (at Jackson), 415-617-0071

HAPPY HOURING

German Beer Nights at SKB

It’s nice when good things come to you without asking. And that goes double when beer is involved. Stop in at Social for free-flowing beer and gratis happy hour apps (sausages, pretzels and cheese). Because beer can only fully reach its potential with pretzels along for the ride.

MISSION POSSIBLE

Mission Chinese Food Launches

You’ll be relieved to know that the guys behind Mission Street Food aren’t done with their pop-up at Lung Shan just yet. Not only are they staying, but they’re also bringing you what they’re calling “Americanized Oriental” food. Expect riffs on dishes from Taiwan, Sichuan and a little kosher Chinese. Seriously.
