Author Sven Kirsten shot music videos for The Cramps and Tom Waits before reinventing himself as (what else?) a renowned tiki expert. Thankfully for you, his journey culminates in a signing party with free music, food and tiki bar.
Things to do for September 13, 2007
The Weekend Starts Here
No need for a statuette to commemorate the weekend.
Miracle Mile Art Walk
You've trolled the edgy downtown lofts and the Culver City up-and-comers. But we're guessing you haven't yet tried tackling 40-plus Miracle Mile galleries in a single afternoon of power chin-stroking.
You have to feel a little sorry for directors who take six months to shoot a film, when the auteurs in this festival were able to do the same thing in 48 hours. Granted, these are shorter, and the production values are a little lower, but still.
You'll cool down with the ocean breeze. You'll sample food from top Westside restaurants like Abode, Tengu and i Cugini. And oh yes, you shall partake of the wine garden.
Gelato Bar One-Year Anniversary
You may have to squint to avoid permanent retina-searing (the colors in here are awfully bright). But free coffee and gelato is your just reward—and, if you're lucky, free lodgings in Umbria. Really.
