Things to do for June 04, 2009
$1 Oysters, Pisco Flights and a Naughty Pop-Up
The weekend is hitting the streets.
You'd never know it walking into this classy, revamped 1888 Victorian, that everything on this tavern's hearty menu of New American cuisine (like Mac & Cheese Croquettes) is all sub-$15. Leaving room for (at least) another round.
If you can't go tonight, go tomorrow or the next day, because Hama Hamas and Steamboats are just a $1 every day. Or splurge for the $2 Kumos, and add a few $4 pints (or wine or champagne) to take the edge off.
We'd say that 24k gold vibrators, massage candles and suede blindfolds at up to 90 percent off are incentive enough to step out of the beer gardens and into the pop-up store at this weekend's Union Street Fair—at least for a peek.
Hands-on training is always better, especially when it comes to learning the ins and outs of pisco. Drink flights of Peruvian brandy, eat empanadas, whip up a few variations of pisco punch, then sit back and pretend you're in Peru.
Toss back a few as you discuss small-batch spirits with Todd Leopold—master distiller of Colorado's Leopold Brothers. Switch to wine for a family-style round of sausages and paella, then finish with five different Leopold Brothers liqueurs with dessert—or, better yet, for dessert.
