Things to do for September 20, 2013
One Weekend, Several Waffles and 1,001 Nights of Comedy
The weekend is housemade, organic and seasonal.
Some Critical Coffee and Waffles
You should know: Linea is one tiny coffee spot. You should also know: it’s from some guys responsible for Ecco Caffe and Mission Chinese. And most importantly, you should know that they found room for salads (from Green Salads) and waffles (from Lt. Waffle). So there’s good waffle feng shui.
The Era of Slicer Pizzeria Begins
First you go into the new place called Slicer Pizzeria. You ponder grabbing a slice and a stool. But then you just grab a whole sausage-and-ricotta pie (or prosciutto-and-fennel) for the road. And a cup of ranch dressing. For dipping, not for a salad. Let’s not get crazy.
At the Academy of Sciences, you could easily lose an entire day learning about science stuff and admiring the penguins’ tuxedos. Or... you could do that all night long, with cocktails, pajamas and random Stanford researchers walking around talking shop. Overnight science triumphs again.
Welcome to Beer Street
Last time you hit the Corner Store, you found plenty of beer. But it was just shy of a whole block’s worth. Their Oktoberfest block party means unlimited local brews, wine, sausage and the occasional burger topped with bacon jam. Nothing says Oktoberfest like bacon jam.
You can theoretically get a lot done in 1,001 nights. Like do 10,001 jumping jacks. Or perform stand-up on stage for 1,001 nights straight, all over the continent. Comedian Sammy Obeid is coming home for his world-record 1,001st-night finale, and hopefully he’s not too exhausted to be funny.
