Things to do for February 28, 2013
Bogart, Bacon and Bourbon
Far from Folsom prison, that’s where the weekend wants to stay.
Bubbles and Bogart at Berlinetta
Stick with us here. There’s Burritt Alley. It’s where a murder in The Maltese Falcon takes place. More recently, the Burritt Room + Tavern opened a private lounge, Berlinetta. All of which makes tonight inevitable: they’re showing The Maltese Falcon—and serving up champagne and venison tartare—at Berlinetta. Now don’t go murdering anyone.
We know how the apocalyptic movie version would go. First, robots are making you cocktails. Then, before you know it, they’re taking over the world. This weekend, just focus on the cocktail part. And if the bots start getting restless, spilling on their circuit boards seems like the way to go.
Jukeboxes and Pinball in Oakland
On top of the usual divey bar stuff—drinks, stools, more drinks—this new saloon has a 1974-era jukebox that plays vinyl records, curated by local DJs. There’s also pinball and live music on weekends. You know, to give the juke some time off.
Bacon. Bourbon. Cocktails. Yes.
Three strong ways to enjoy some bourbon this week: Tradition’s Aperol-tinged Bardella; Wayfare’s rummy Briar Patch; and, for the carnivorous, the Bourbon-Smoked Bacon Old Fashioned at Hops & Hominy. It comes with a bacon garnish. Drink enough and it passes for dinner.
Just Some NFL Players Bartending
Your mission, should you accept it: testing the cocktail-making skills of Marshawn Lynch, Patrick Willis and Taiwan Jones. They’re mixing drinks at MatrixFillmore for a night. You’ve always wanted a 49er to fix you an Old Fashioned.
