Big game coming. You don’t want to mess around. So here are three strong to very strong options: 1) A majestic chili bar with toppings, appetizers and... football-shaped cookies. 2) A heap of bacon-filled brownies and cookies. 3) 10 heavenly pounds of hand-cured prosciutto. Note: they all go great with beer.
Things to do for January 24, 2013
Beer and Board Games, Maybe Some Other Stuff
And the home... of the... weekend.
In Case of Sandwich Emergency...
You’re sitting in La Brea traffic. And suddenly it overcomes you: an uncontrollable need for a sandwich, an almost offensively healthy shake and some kombucha on tap. So pull over. Enter Clover. It’s a juice bar from the Churchill guys—to balance out all the damage you do at the Churchill.
BASE Mondrian Opens. It’s a Shop.
At most hotel gift shops, you might find a toothbrush and a T-shirt that says you “heart” something or other. Most hotels are not the Mondrian on the Sunset Strip—their new lobby shop has skateboards, Italian jewelry, Comme des Garçons wallets, clothes from Apolis... and toothbrushes. Just in case.
Drinks at Kate Mantilini, Please
You’ve had many an industry meal at Kate Mantilini. Might’ve even sat at table 24, where Michael Mann sat when he directed that De Niro–Pacino scene in Heat. And now Table 24 is a scotch drink on the new cocktail list by Devon Espinosa (from Pour Vous). Order it anywhere.
Breakfast and Board Games at Tony’s
So: big game coming. No, not that one. The “Breakfast of Champions” showdown at Tony’s Darts Away—a two-morning tournament involving beer and randomly selected board games (might be Jenga, might be Chutes and Ladders). Winning two-person team gets a pair of growlers. Better than a trophy, really.
Magnum Mondays at STK
Anytime you have a steak is cause for celebration. Do it Monday at STK and you’ll see what we mean—think DJ, dancers and magnums of champagne going for the price of a bottle. See, red meat is good for you.
