Sure, you can ponder investing in art rather than stocks at this weekend festival. Or you could just hang out in the fully functional replica of Chinatown's Mountain Bar they created inside—when the fair's open, the bar's open.
Things to do for January 22, 2009
Shark Fin, Bar Clone and a Moving Sale
The weekend would like to phone a friend.
Third Street's remaining shops will hopefully ride out the next few months, but Scout won't be around to find out—you'll find Endovanera, Wayne Hadly and Lova at up to 90 percent off this weekend, so the store can clean house and jump ship for Hollywood.
To celebrate the Chinese New Year in style (on the 26th, it's the year of the ox), stop by the pocket-sized Joss for a few timely specialties like...Shark Fin in Golden Pumpkin Bisque or Sweet and Sour Lychee Autumn Fish. No ox, but that's okay.
Usually, you don't get all that excited for a confab of bargain prix-fixe dinners around town. But this year, impressive newbies like the Bazaar, Drago Centro and Provecho are all on the list. Plan accordingly, and think of it as a three-course meal of three-course meals.
Sunset Happy Hour at Casa Del Mar
Among the pleasures in life that don't get old—beachside happy hours. (With apologies to states further east, January's fine, thanks.) Take a seat by the window in the lobby lounge for a sushi sampler and a glass of Schramsberg Blanc de Blanc at seven bucks apiece.
