Things to do for September 13, 2012
Poker, Churros and Mrs. Robinson
The weekend is compatible with Lightning.
Tonight, a few Stanford and Berkeley statisticians—as well as card-counting experts—will divulge the art and science behind games of chance. Then, along with picking up all kinds of poker tips, you’ll partake in a cocktail tour spanning five bars. We like your odds. (Well, so to speak.)
Chartreuse on Tap at Grand Cafe
Beer, wine, water—all great from the tap. Now add Chartreuse to the list. Turns out, Grand Cafe is putting this liqueur—once made by Carthusian monks in the 1700s—on draft. You can get it with a Kronenbourg or mixed with cognac in the Grand Old Fashioned. Those monks were on to something...
Dinner and a movie: easy. Especially when dinner is a picnic basket stocked with peppers, cannoli, pizza and a bottle of red wine. Oh, and the movie’s The Graduate, showing at Dolores Park. BYO Mrs. Robinson.
Pig & Pie, Now with Brunch
Pig & Pie’s already your go-to spot for late-night sausage and pie. Now, it’s opening up for brunch. Expect Green Eggs and Ham (the menu’s a pinch Seussian), cast-iron bread pudding, and biscuits and gravy. Expect those things, because they have them.
Pairing Wine with Tex-Mex
Fancy wine. Mexican food. That’s what’s going on here. Chili verde. Carnitas tacos. Churros. Paired with pinot or riesling. If you’re thinking a date might come in handy here, you’re thinking correctly.
