Go to all three days of this celebration of all things tiki and hit ten tiki bars in the Bay Area, or single-out Friday's event and say aloha to mai tais at Trad'r Sam, Tonga Room and Bamboo Hut. Because one rum-filled night ought to do it.
Things to do for October 09, 2008
The Weekend Starts Here
The weekend is taking flight.
1AM Art Gallery Opens in SoMa
Giving street-art gallery cred, 1AM, opening Friday, is dedicated to urban art. The inaugural exhibit showcases work by local graffiti-ists and street-art legends—some of which you might've already admired on your way into work.
Watch the ladies of the Oakland Outlaws and Richmond Wrecking Belles roller-skate, elbow and hip-check it out for the right to be called Bay Area champs. Sit rink-side at your own risk...or possibly your own reward.
Rooftops are great for watching the Blue Angels, but a good yacht view is tough to beat. Prep your sea legs and join Trefethen Winery aboard the Merlot, stocked with meatballs, prime rib, tiger prawns and four different estate wines.
Burgers & Burgundy Sundays at Spruce
A juicy burger topped with pancetta or seared foie gras and served with duck fat fries—all paired with red Burgundies not normally offered by the glass. If this doesn't prepare you for Monday, God help you.
The kooky folks behind "the MTV of food networks" are hosting a wildly ambitious, all-you-can-eat smorgasbord featuring 200 pounds of slow-roasted Heritage breed pig and slow-smoked antelope. We suggest bringing a nice antelope-pairing red.
