Things to do for December 08, 2011
Gratis Umami, Indie Cinema and a New Wine Bar
The weekend is checking it twice.
Downtown’s New Pour Haus
In the former home of Swill, you’ll now find... another wine bar. It’s still bright and white, but they’ve done away with all those high-tech wine-dispensing machines, so an actual person will bring over your flight of wine. That’ll do.
Half-Off Pizza on the Westside
Tonight’s the first birthday of Hostaria del Piccolo, and instead of cake they have pies—lots of pies. Every single pizza on their menu, topped with everything from prosciutto to ahi, is half price in celebration. Just remember, candles don’t stay up all that well in cheese.
Burgers, Beer and Vintage Denim
To kick off the new shop full of prime vintage Levi’s now tucked into Fred Segal, you’ll want to swing by tomorrow night’s opening bash. In addition to the denim, there’ll be gratis Umami and PBR. Just don’t get any on your new jeans.
Hollywood’s New Indie Theater
There’s a new indie screening house in town, right next to the Egyptian. So if you need to book a place to show your new film for a couple weeks, great. But you should also prepare to get lots of invites to your friends’ screenings. And their friends’ screenings...
Marcel Vigneron Goes Nuts at Gonpachi
You know that chef who does such weird stuff in the kitchen he’s got a Syfy show—well, he’s turning tables at a sprawling, old-school Japanese restaurant this weekend. So expect Tempura Egg with Pork Belly, Coffee Potatoes and Maple Soy. Instead of, like, sushi.
