The Weekender

The Weekend Starts Here

The weekend is carrying the torch.

Thursday
Ninth Hour at Katsuya
THURSDAY SPICE

Ninth Hour at Katsuya

After a dry run at Foxtail, the "ninth hour" happy-hour concept (theoretically that which follows an eight-hour workday) is now at the Katsuyas, too. Baked Crab Hand Rolls and Burning Mandarin cocktails are priced down to—yes—nine bucks apiece. Here's hoping for a lunchtime "fourth hour" soon.

411: Mon-Fri, 5-7pm, Katsuya, 6300 Hollywood Blvd (at Vine), Hollywood, 323-871-8777

Thursday
Barneys Warehouse Sale Returns
THURSDAY SALE-ING

Barneys Warehouse Sale Returns

Airplane hangar, no dressing rooms, top designer goods marked down by up to 75 percent—the city's biggest sale (at least in terms of square footage) is back...

FRIDAY MEDAL

Olympic Kickoff at West

If during opening ceremonies Friday you're stuck in Westside traffic—stranger things have happened—pull in to watch them here, with $8.88 fare like a Stuffed Mushroom Discus and some Chicken Javelin Throws (the meat's on a skewer). The USA Gold is vodka-based, as all medals should be.

411: Aug 8, West at Hotel Angeleno, 170 N. Church Lane (N. of Sunset), Penthouse Level, West LA, 310-476-6411

Saturday
Summerfest 2008
SATURDAY SMACKDOWN

Summerfest 2008

But if you prefer your sports a little less civilized, bask in the spectacle of WWE wrestlers body-slamming each other on the beach. And you thought sand in your shorts was uncomfortable.

411: Aug 9, 11am-5pm, Venice Beach

Sunday
New Happy Hour at Katana
SUNDAY STRIP

New Happy Hour at Katana

Take a seat inside at the bar (sure) or out on the patio lounge overlooking the Sunset Strip (better) for $5 options, including beer, sake, skewers and Tori No Kara Age (that's deep-fried chicken). Because it's your duty to support all seven-day-a-week happy hours.

411: Mon-Fri, 5:30-7pm, Sat-Sun, 6-7pm, Katana, 8439 W. Sunset Blvd (E. of La Cienega), West Hollywood, 323-650-8585
