Things to do for August 25, 2011
Two Pig Roasts, Burlesque and Slip ’N Slides
Keep your friends close and the weekend closer.
Getting Weird at the Atlanta Opera
Mozart. That magnificent bastard. He gave us the “Requiem,” made powdered wigs look good... inspired one of the strangest movies in ’80s history (a feat in and of itself). Regarding the latter, the Atlanta Opera is closing out their summer film series with a free screening of Amadeus. Weird Mozart date... do it.
Too Much Amazing for One Place
First, a few things that are glorious: pig roasts, live music, High Road Craft Ice Cream, Sublime Doughnuts, SweetWater beer trucks. And here’s where to find them all in one place: Cypress Street Pint & Plate’s pig roast this weekend. It’s a small price to pay for glory.
An Unbalanced Beer-to-You Ratio
You’re going to make a lot of decisions this weekend. Some bad. Some good. Some that start bad but turn out good. But none so important as the ones you’ll make at the German Bierfest: Kulmbacher, Hacker-Pschorr... Beck’s (okay, that one was easy). Maybe just let fate decide.
Burlesque. Slip ’N Slides. Art.
You would do anything for art. You would watch burlesque performances from Minette Magnifique. Listen to local bands. Eat from food trucks like Tex’s Tacos and Westside Creamery. Even enjoy the occasional Slip ’N Slide. But only if you’re supporting the local art scene in the process. Or if it just works out that way.
A Tiki-Themed Bacon Party in VaHi
So Diesel’s been doing these Bacon & Beer parties for a while now. It’s where they make bacon-y food and bacon-y drinks for you. Genius, really. But this time around, they’re going with a tiki theme—think tiki cocktails, a surf rock DJ and a smoked pig. Then beer.
