We thought you needed a change of scenery... so we took the liberty of booking you a room and dinner for two at a Michelin-starred restaurant in Napa Valley. (Hope you don’t mind.) Plus, we’re getting you a Bellini-fueled, five-course brunch at AOC for 50 bucks. You’re welcome.
Things to do for August 11, 2011
Futuristic Chicken, Rare Beer and a Block Party
The weekend is a triple-A weekend.
Michael Voltaggio’s Sandwich Spot
You’re still waiting... and waiting... for Michael Voltaggio to open his molecular Melrose eatery, ink. But today he’s opened a surprise sandwich counter next door called ink.sack, which you’ll want to hit immediately for a lunch bag filled with fried chicken sandwiches made from centrifuged buttermilk. Mmm, futuristic chicken.
The Sunset Strip’s New Mexican Spot
We know you. You want tequila. You want Mole Xico Beef Enchiladas. And you want them on a patio. On Sunset. And there had better be a couple of glass waterfalls inside. Yes, your demands are pretty specific. Thankfully, Rosa Mexicano has opened a suitable new outpost.
4pm Tamales and Beer in Beverly Hills
Going forward, when it’s 4pm and your office productivity is waning, you’ll be able to grab an afternoon pick-me-up at Cocina Primavera’s new happy hour involving $3 sweet corn tamales and $4 lagers. Eating sweet corn tamales: also productive.
The Hudson Throws a Block Party
If you’re up for a 10-hour blowout on Saturday (and we have to assume you are), head toward the Hudson. The parking lot and street out front will be closed down for a block party featuring live music, Baby Blues barbecue and merchandise from the Pleasure Chest. You know, the basics.
8th Street Bottle Shop Opens
Next time you’re drinking beer at the Golden Gopher, a surprise awaits you just before the exit: more beer. The owners have enlisted the Beer Chicks to stock a tiny new beer shop with about 80 rare brews for you to think about taking home. Along with whatever else you’re taking home.
