A Look Back at the Formula E Experience With G.H.Mumm

Fast Cars, Stunning Views and Sipping Champagne with Usain Bolt's Hologram

Formula E and G.H.Mumm officially arrived in New York City this past weekend with their groundbreaking electric racecars and stellar Champagne, respectively.

Brooklyn’s Qualcomm ePrix was bustling with opportunities to take in the action and toast some of the most daring souls professional racing has to offer. DS Virgin’s Sam Bird, who swept the weekend with back-to-back wins, garnered a lot of that attention.

The top three drivers all popped humongous victory bottles of G.H.Mumm over the weekend. Needless to say, there was plenty of excitement and competitive spirit. The Formula E races brought as many twists and turns off the track as they did on it (which is saying a lot—the track is one of the tightest next to Hong Kong, according to some drivers).

With a full week’s worth of events jam-packed into one morning and afternoon, it can be tricky getting the most of an experience. So we hit everything the race had to offer and laid it all out into a day's recap. From leisurely outdoor lounges to interactive holograms of Usain Bolt, these are but a few of the highlights...

Arriving by Boat: Always a Strong Option
Only those who are doing it right arrive by water to a sporting event held completely on land. The East River was a fine alternative to the swarming traffic of south Brooklyn. It was also a lot more fun.

The Emotion Club Was the Place to Be
Turns out, electric racecar events in the middle of July can be supremely hot. We immediately found some shade and a few nice lounge chairs boasting striking views of the Freedom Tower to enjoy a refreshing glass of G.H.Mumm.

Then, a Little Brushing Up on the Competition
The Emotion Club hoisted up two massive screens that ran interviews with drivers and big time players throughout the morning. It never hurts to gain a little insight before big races like these.

Hologram Usain Bolt: Present and Accounted For
Which makes sense considering he's G.H.Mumm's CEO. Not that kind. The "Chief Entertainment Officer" kind.

Always Take Advantage of a Fully Catered Buffet
The actual cars don’t need any fuel (it’s kind of the point). We are not one of those cars.

Lest We Forget the Private Tour of the Lucas di Grassi Garage...
Named after the first driver in motorsports history to win a motor race in an all-electric, single-seater car, the Lucas di Grassi Garage was where we were able to get a look at the hard-working pit crew and the insides of the machines they help keep on the track.

High-End Video Game Experiences for Everyone
Anyone would grab the opportunity to hop behind the wheel of one of these state-of-the-art driving machines. But we spent the morning drinking top-notch Champagne from the grandest region of France and stuck to the Virtual Reality side of things.

Race Time
As much fun as the day brought, the race itself was truly a spectacle. Funny thing: the cars make zero noise, and watching them zip around in silent fury holds a bizarre quality about it that not many anticipate.

Cooling Off After a Long, Hot Day
The winner of each race fully embraced the privilege of popping three gigantic bottles of G.H.Mumm. We found a spot directly in the line of spray for a nice quick cool-off before having one last round upon day’s end.
