New York Home > Leisure > Superior Bowl

01/30/08

Weekender-title-line
With each passing Super Bowl and each amateurish 7-layer bean dip, you've descended further into a gluttonous pit of despair. No more, we say. Some of the best restaurants in New York, from Wolfgang's to Cipriani, quietly offer delivery—and there's no better time than this Sunday to transcend tradition. Sit back, relax and let the feasting begin...

THE STEAK CONTINGENT

Wolfgang's

When you can get Luger's-style quarter-inch-thick bacon and a porterhouse big enough for four brought to you, well, you do it. Just make sure you have your own knives—plastic just won't cut it.
411:
Wolfgang's, for Gramercy, 212-889-3369, for Tribeca, 212-925-0350

The Second Helping

Ben and Jack's

If Wolfgang's is a bit too...downtown, hit up the good sirs at Ben and Jack's for the same meat, creamed spinach and (German) potatoes uptown. Meat knows no boundaries...
411:
Ben and Jack's, open after 4pm, 212-682-5678

THE OLD WORLD ITALIAN

Morandi

It just so happens that the Sunday special at Morandi is Lasagna. We couldn't think of a more appropriate Italian tribute to the eating traditions of the Big Game. Except maybe the Sicilian-style meatballs with pine nuts and raisins.
411:
Morandi, 212-627-7575, menu available here

THE NEW WORLD LES-er

Schiller's

You won't be able to get the signature cocktails, but the Chicken Paillard and crowd favorites like the Schiller's Nachos and the Chopped Liver Mousse should gloss over your attempts at mixology.
411:
Schiller's, throughout the LES and East Village (and even farther if you ask nicely), 212-260-4555, menu available here

THE ARISTOCRATS

Cipriani

The chance to eat Cipriani's Chilean Sea Bass in old jeans is a reward in itself. We imagine it goes well with domestic beer commercials involving talking animals too.
411:
Cipriani, 212-343-0999

The Small Plate

Landmarc Tribeca and Time Warner Center

The wine list and massive menu get chopped a little for delivery, but the best appetizers come through in all their glory, like the Roasted Marrow Bones and Warm Goat Cheese Profiteroles.
411:
Landmarc, 646-437-3200

THE WHOLE ENCHILADA

Los Dados

Nothing says American football like a Mexican feast. Forgo the nachos and bean dip, though, for some Lamb Barbacoa Burritos and Grilled Corn on the Cob With Chile Aioli and Queso Cotija.

Los Dados, 646-810-7290, menu available here

THE EASTERNERS

Phillipe

Pay tribute to this East Coast showdown by going one step further East—get your hands on a hefty Peking Duck, a Maine Live Lobster and the signature Green Prawns courtesy of the former Mr. Chow chef.
411:
Phillipe, via Dial-A-Dinner at 212-643-1222

AN EMORMOUS PORK BUTT

Ssam Bar

For the special day in question, the good folks at Ssam Bar will break out of their no-delivery policy to bring you their crown jewel, the legendary Bo Ssam: whole roasted pork butt with bibb lettuce, rice, kimchi and sauces. Warning: these are so distractingly good, eating may cause you to miss critical plays.
411:
Ssam Bar, $30 per person with a $200 minimum, 212-254-3500 ext. 109, orders by Friday 5pm
