Five Brunches to Properly Launch Your 2015

We’re not saying how you brunch on New Year’s Day will set the tone for the entirety of your 2015. We’re just saying brandy-sauced french toast or a steak-and-french-fry stir-fry wouldn’t be a terrible idea, just in case.

Causwells
THE SOUTHERN-ISH BRUNCH

Causwells

You require: An early-morning start. Hey, anything’s possible.
You’ll receive: A 9am Marina brunch involving Southern-inspired breakfast like brandy-sauced french toast bites and those buttermilk biscuits with sausage gravy. But you might turn down all the micheladas and three kinds of mimosas. Okay, maybe not anything is possible.

Jan 1, 9am-3:30pm, Causwells, 2346 Chestnut St (near Divisadero), 415-447-6081

El Techo de Lolinda
THE MEXICAN BRUNCH

El Techo de Lolinda

You require: Fresh air. From a few stories up.
You’ll receive: A spacious rooftop stacked with supercharged heat lamps. Also available to warm you up: those margaritas, Techo Rancheros (pork, fried eggs, tortillas), Mexican beignets... and chicharrones by the pound. In case of emergency.

Navio
THE RITZ BRUNCH

Navio

You require: An escape from the city. Immediately.
You’ll receive: Oysters, caviar, sushi and dim sum at the Ritz’s glorious Sunday brunch spread. And hey, look at that—it’s the Pacific Ocean, visible to anyone not wearing extremely dark sunglasses.

La Mar Cebichería Peruana
THE WATERFRONT BRUNCH

La Mar Cebichería Peruana

You require: A place with a waterfront deck and an unending supply of pisco sours.
You’ll receive: Exactly that, plus fresh ceviche, big plates of lomo saltado (think: steak and french-fry stir-fry) and those pisco sours. Guess you can cross off that steak-and-french-fry-stir-fry resolution already.

The Monk’s Kettle
THE FRIED-OYSTER BRUNCH

The Monk’s Kettle

You require: Less bacon and eggs, more cornmeal fried oysters and beer.
You’ll receive: Rebirth. Bavarian ales will be plentiful. Oysters will be fried. Charcuterie platters will be piled high with Cowgirl Creamery cheese and house rillettes. Memories of the previous night will be... slowly returning.
