On a blustery day in March, Carson Street Clothiers plied you with scotch and introduced you to a near-crippling sport-coat addiction. Later, Schott opened a storefront for your leather-jacket needs, a mere 100 years after they went into business. And the Armoury taught you what it was to truly love... a shoe.
This year, all roads pointed to... not here. The Graham & Co. gave you a rustic Brooklyn away from Brooklyn. Playland Motel became the answer to the question “What the hell do we do in Rockaway?” And HQ Beach Club continued the solemn tradition of the AC pool party.
They say if the shirt fits, wear it. Actually, no—they say that about shoes. But still: it works. Anyway, the gentlemen of ManuelRacim and Proper Cloth made it their lives’ work to see that your Eton-collar gingham oxford is perfect in every way. Swell guys, those.
The Marlton. The Jade. One’s a new Greenwich Village hotel with a killer bar and a date-worthy restaurant. And the other’s... pretty much the same thing. Meanwhile, in Chelsea, the High Line opened in an old seminary next to a park we can’t remember the name of.
You don’t need an axe. You probably never will. Which is not to say that you wouldn’t like to have one. One handmade and painted by the good folks at Best Made. Who have also hooked you up with some of your more perfect T-shirts, jackets and wooden rockets. Again, not about need.
For a few glorious weekends last summer, the world was a place where you could sit by the beach, enjoy a nice brunch and have a man drop from the sky with a bottle of champagne and deliver it to you in a beach parade. Hamptons ’14 should be great.
Your January 2013 resolutions: the less said, the better. But we suspect you gave it a go with some Gleason’s boxing at Mercedes Club and some intensive swing-coaching at Golf & Body. And if not, hey, there’s 2014...
