Playing Bar Games in the Great Outdoors

You know what’s an excellent source of vitamin D: tequila. Kidding. It’s sunlight. But if you’re looking to kill two birds with one stone, here are five upstanding drinking establishments with bar games you can play outside. A little fresh air never hurt any margaritas.

FOR POOLSIDE SHENANIGANS

Hyde Beach

The game: A pretty weird version of foosball set up by the pool. Your players are a bunch of costumed figures in wigs and dresses. We don’t make this stuff up.
The provisions: Sushi from Katsuya and spiked fruit paletas that you can eat on the foosball table. Convenient.

FOR THE BEANBAG INCLINED

Whiskey Joe’s

The game: Sure, there’s the gorgeous Biscayne Bay. Two-piece-bathing-suited patrons sipping frozen drinks. But you... you’re here for the cornhole.
The provisions: Fried gator nuggets. And rum runners. You know, for that competitive edge.

FOR THE WOULD-BE ARCHITECT

Wood Tavern

The game: Oversize Jenga. Those who are linguistically adroit might call it “really big.” Because it’s really big.
The provisions: Carnitas tacos from the 1964 Mercury Commuter station wagon parked on the outdoor patio. It’s called Pancho Taco. See, you’re already on a first-name basis.

FOR THE MARBLES AFICIONADO

Bocce Bar

The game: Bocce. On a regulation-size bocce court positioned right in front of the bar. You can’t miss it.
The provisions: Italian heavy hitters like gnocchetti in black squid ink and linguine with Maine lobster. Yeah... you’re going to need a couple of extra-spirited rounds on the court.

FOR REALLY OLD-SCHOOL GAMING

Blackbird Ordinary

The game: Connect Four. Battleship. Operation. The classics.
The provisions: A Rough-Legged Hawk made with bourbon, watermelon and rosemary picked from the vertical garden on the backyard terrace. Which, incidentally, is where you’ll be taking your Connect Four grid. Oh, and your drink, too.
