Your Guide to Art Basel 2012

Contrary to what you may have heard, Art Basel is in fact a competition. And below: your guide to winning it (also, your primer on what David Lynch will be doing there). Herewith, the five best events of Art Basel week. We’ll keep score.

Phuc Yea’s Pop-Up Bar
GIVE MEI

Phuc Yea’s Pop-Up Bar

Those clever wordsmiths from the Fed are adding a new member to the family for Art Basel. They’ve named her Phuc Mei, and she’ll be slinging vodka-spiked punch and gin cocktails alongside her big sister Phuc Yea’s pork banh mi inside the Scope Miami tent. Remember, banh mi before liquor...

Dec 3-8, 11am-7pm; Dec 9, 11am-6pm; Scope Miami, 110 NE 36th St

A Nightclub from David Lynch
LYNCH PIN

A Nightclub from David Lynch

After you’ve hit Bianca for some truffled pasta, wander downstairs to FDR. Only... there won’t be an FDR. In its place: Club Silencio—a temporary version of David Lynch’s (yes, that David Lynch) Mulholland Drive–inspired Paris lounge. Expect music, film, art and cocktails. Also, expect all of them to be really weird.

This Dance Club Is a Secret
BARON LANDSCAPE

This Dance Club Is a Secret

Ah yes, Le Baron. Legendary French nightclub and notoriously difficult door. If you’ve ever wondered what goes on inside there, you’ll get your answer (it’s Vietnamese exotic dancing) during Basel. The location and time: secret. Just be sure to check their website every night at 6pm for clues. But... we’ve said too much already.

A Soccer Tournament on the Moon
GOAL ORIENTED

A Soccer Tournament on the Moon

Space. The final frontier. Also, a pretty good soccer pitch. See, some artists decided to make a field that looks like the lunar landing site of Apollo 11. You should go. Take in a tournament between some gallerists. Grab some gratis Havaianas flip-flops. Give thanks for a little thing called gravity...

Dec 6-8, 11am-8pm (tournaments 6-8pm), no cost, Collins Park (between 21st and 22nd St on the beach)

Pressed Sandwiches and Coffee at 4am
FUEL UP

Pressed Sandwiches and Coffee at 4am

Eventually, you’ll hit “the wall.” And when that happens (typically around 4am), head to the Standard. Inside: a 24-hour pop-up café made to look like the old city streets of Havana. They’ll be serving life-restoring pressed sandwiches and espresso from David’s Café. Think of it like a ham-and-cheese second wind.
