Dock Holiday

Your Guide to Dockside Drinking

Boats. Great for sailing/taking advantage of maritime-law loopholes. Also, the easiest way to access the Magic City’s finest dockside cocktailing establishments. Below, 24 hours’ worth of waterfront tippling. All that’s left to do: hire a designated captain. And figure out which side is starboard.

Gibraltar
7AM

Gibraltar

Pull up to this 85-slip marina on the tropically lush Grove Isle. Drop anchor. Then make your way to Gibraltar and order a mimosa while you watch the sunrise over the bay. Have a moment. Then, order another mimosa.

Area 31

Right about now, it’s probably pretty hot. We suggest finding a pool and procuring a cocktail. So steer into the concrete docks at Epic, where they can accommodate vessels up to 900 feet (good, you’re covered) and where they conveniently have a pool bar. That serves vodka-spiked cherry lemonade. No porch necessary.

Rusty Pelican

Rusty Pelican

Your next move: the 200-slip, round-the-clock-attended Rickenbacker Marina. Within walking distance: the Rusty Pelican, and by proxy, their Rusty Spice. It’s a tequila concoction with sriracha, ginger and watermelon. Minus the seeds.

Asia de Cuba at the Mondrian

Asia de Cuba at the Mondrian

Ah, sunset at the Mondrian. The purple-hued sky. The red neo-Victorian furniture. The neo-string bikinis by the pool. Pull into one of their 26 dock spots and secure a round of Havana Cigar Manhattans. Imagine a regular Manhattan, but with cigar syrup. Yes, that’s a good thing.

Duffy’s Sports Grill

Duffy’s Sports Grill

Wind down the night watching Marlins highlights on the 10-foot outdoor screens at this NoMi sports bar. Find a sweet spot along the shoreline and have a bucket of beers and some Angus burgers delivered to your boat. Remember to tip your longshoremen.
