Much Ado About Sushi and Sake Here

It’s Monday. You’re probably pretty busy. So let’s just get right to it and talk Akoya. It’s a Downtown den for sake and maki that just opened today. (See the slideshow.)

You might remember it as Ceviche Piano. You might also be wondering what’s different here. Well, just so happens that we can assist with that.

Then: A black-and-white, damask-filled parlor with a piano up front for an intimate date night with a ceviche connoisseur.
Now: The whole black-and-white look is still here, but they’ve taken out the piano and Buddhas and replaced them with blue glass, a bamboo-and-wood bar and a massive painting of the goddess Benten. You could have a nice, relaxing business lunch here. With a few colleagues. Or... Benten. Either way.

Then: Mostly Peruvian—ceviche. Lomo. You know the deal.
Now: They’ve kept some of the above, but added nigiri, sashimi and maki made by a former Nobu and Tokyo Blue chef. Stuff like thinly sliced octopus carpaccio and a tempura-shrimp roll topped with sirloin steak.

Then: A notable lack of sake cocktails.
Now: A notable bevy of sake cocktails.

And that’s how you end on a high note.
