The Akashi Folks Get Upscale in Brickell

None 8 Photos Hannya
Dear Miami,

Welcome to fall.

Note the brisk autumn air. The orange-hued leaves. The subtle scent of pumpkin ale.

Ha.

On the bright side: new sushi in Brickell.

Toast to the equinox at Hannya, a new sushi-and-sake operation from the Akashi folks, soft-open now.

Akashi. They’ve been doing magical things with sushi in South Miami for 20 years. And now they’re doing those things in Brickell. Which bodes well for your daily recommended nigiri intake.

Inside, it’s a modern-day pagoda of sorts—with exposed brick, onyx-tiled walls and a gold roof. And if you’re thinking this would work well for one of those lunchtime client things or as a second-date rendezvous point, we’re here to tell you: yep (see the slideshow here).

For the former: one of the black wooden booths. A discreet spot for exchanging a few trade secrets over some Sapporos.

For the latter: the sushi bar. It’s the one with the massive lionfish tank lining the wall. Solid conversation-starting locale for bottles of unfiltered sake and some grilled yellowtail collar.

Which you’re likely to find at brunch here... soon. Along with 13 kinds of Vietnamese-style noodles.

Thirteen’s always been your lucky number.
