A SoBe Kitchen That Doubles as a Bar

Voyeurism...

... has absolutely nothing to do with what we’re about to tell you.

Unless you count watching a man do some pretty unconventional stuff with an octopus.

Then... sort of.

Take a good, long look at Semilla Eatery & Bar, a sophisticated little cove for small plates and exotic cocktails prepared under your vigilant watch at the bar, now open in South Beach.

Villa Mayfair. You remember that place. That over-the-top European raw bar in the Grove. Well, the chef there has crossed the causeway and ended up here. A sleek-looking industrial realm with a stainless-steel bar, walls covered in worn wooden planks, some really great tapas and some really great drinks.

Bring a date. Head directly to the bar and to your Beetnik Martini (beet-infused vodka, ginger syrup, lemon sour). That’s because your seats there completely surround an open kitchen. Which is where your goat-cheese-bacon croquetas and barbecue octopus will be finished off. And no, it’s not impolite to stare.

Of course, if you require an area that’s a bit more... cozy, request a corner spot on the cushioned banquette lining the wall. Specifically, the section under pots of rosemary, basil and thyme. Great place for sharing a 40-ounce porterhouse for two.

Don’t try to be a hero.
