On the Lan
A New Asian Supper Club in SoBe
So you’re not going to make it to Hong Kong this year. (It’s okay, Mauritius is so much nicer this time
of year.)
But you’re still looking for a gracious spot to host a preholiday feast of blue crab spring rolls and
spicy chili prawns.
And if it comes with ocean views, all the better...
Welcome to
Lantao Kitchen + Cocktails, a new South Beach supper club brimming with Asian street
food and lychee martinis, now open at the Surfcomber Hotel.
Think of Lantao (named after an island in Hong Kong) as an upscale jaunt through the food stalls of
Southeast Asia—except without the live scorpions on skewers. Things like
Korean-style BBQ
pork ribs chased with papaya and pork belly salad. But it’s
plenty handsome,
too—there’s a slate-gray bar where you’ll get started with a soju-spiked cocktail like the
Nocturnal Mule made with lychee and pomegranate.
And if the weather’s bad (or you just want to keep things covert), settle into a corner banquette where
you and a few spring-roll lovers will get comfortable with bottles of sake and street noodles in spicy
coconut broth.
Otherwise, you’ll want to step outside for a seat on the patio, where you can catch salty breezes between
bites of duck crepes made with Asian duck confit and desserts like forbidden black rice pudding.
Well, not forbidden for you.
