“Ida Claire.”

Like “I declare.”

Get it?

Of course you do.

Good talk.

Make the acquaintance of Ida Claire, an eclectic, Southern-tinged restaurant with biscuits, flatbreads and bourbon-spiked drinks. It’s from the people who brought you Whiskey Cake and Velvet Taco, and it’s now open in Addison.

Between the birdcages hanging from the ceiling, the decorative plates above the kitchen and other assorted knickknacks, there’s a lot to look at here. But don’t let that distract you from what’s really at stake: biscuits. Those come in a few varieties like beef cheek, barbecue shrimp and crispy chicken, and those would make a fine addition to your day. (Drool-inducing photos, here.)

Start at the bar. Partly because it has comfortable chairs, but mostly because there you can procure an ice-cold mint julep or a refreshing bourbon-peach number that makes you happy it’s summer. And then, eat. Cajun gumbo, tea-braised pork shanks, chicken and waffles, shrimp and grits... all solid choices.

Oh, and that silver Airstream trailer on the patio: that’s a little dining room. Request it the next time you’re hosting a birthday dinner or you’ve got some clients to impress.

Be sure to ask if anyone’s claustrophobic.
