Things to do for October 13, 2011
The Weekender
This Weekend: Oysters, Grilled Cheese, Poker
The weekend is stockpiling candy corn.
Thursday
Now for Something Hot and Cheesy...
Dion Antic has made a name for himself in Chicago nightlife. Now, he’s making a name for himself in your afternoonlife. This school-lunchroom-inspired sandwichery oozes with provolone, truffle cheddar and aged prosciutto. Bring your favorite lunch lady.
Pokering in Hammond
Macau. Vegas. Monte Carlo. Nice places. But this weekend, it’s Hammond. The reason: you can clean up because the World Series of Poker is anteing up $500,000 for a 12-day tourney. Also, it’s nothing personal, but you and Macau need a break from each other.
Friday
A Massive, Massive Oyster Fest
The air is crisp. The leaves are turning. An unmistakable briny fragrance is enveloping Hubbard Street. It can only mean one of two things: either Shaw’s annual Royster with the Oyster fest is happening or... Actually, we don’t care to speculate on alternatives.
The Game Show Show’s New Home
Everyone’s favorite game show/musical/improv thingy is setting up shop in a new theater. It’s basically So You Think You Can Dance meets Jeopardy, with a frenetic emcee pulling you from the audience to test your nerves, wits and/or mettle for cash and prizes. But mostly for glory.
Sunday
Your Fall Finery Awaits. As Does a Beer.
You need to pick up some basics this weekend. Leather boots. T-shirts designed by a Bulls player. Vintage cufflinks. Beer. Artisan s’mores. Blanket-lined baseball caps. A banh mi. We know of a place with all these: Dose Market. It would’ve been really awkward if we didn’t.
