A Tea Shop Where You Get Fried Chicken

Hidden Behind the Boba Guys’ Newest Cafe...

Ever heard of a boba tea shop with a Korean fried chicken “speakeasy” in the back?

Right.

Looks like we’ve got some work to do today.

Let’s start with the fact that the Boba Guys’ new café comes complete with, yes, a semi-hidden fried chicken takeout window called Sunday Bird that opens tomorrow on Fillmore.

Then let’s look at the slideshow. Then let’s learn more things together...

This is the brainchild of Anthony Bourdain-endorsed Dueki Hong (of Kang Ho Dong Baekjeong and Momofuku fame) who just left New York to start anew here in our fair city.

You’ll likely show up late and find yourself walking under a glass garage door towards the back of the particularly chipper front café. You’ll then be in a narrow hallway decorated with chicken-themed things.

It’ll all start to make sense once you discover that they’ll be serving 24-hour brined, twice-fried Korean chicken along with sides like honey butter bao biscuits and chicken fat chicharrones in there.

Then, when you’re damn good and ready, you’ll head back up front to eat those things, along with some Strauss soft-serve ice cream that can be topped with boba and housemade mochi.

When you’re damn good and ready, though. Can’t stress that enough.
